Job Search

My poor 16 year old son has been looking for a job since about March. He seriously has put in a good effort to get out there and talk with anyone who might hire a teenager. He has put his application in just about everywhere in town. Yes, he has learned the value of calling back to check on whether they even read it. At first he told us (dumbies) that he didn't need to do that, but by the end of the Summer he discovered (on his own :)) that this was the way to do it. He even put together a brilliant resume.

Many places have upped the age from hiring 16 year olds to only 18 year olds and older. Too many adults looking for jobs I guess. Also companies that usually hire many teenagers in the Summer are only hiring a few this year. Hard to get that first job when most people need someone with experience.

Here is the sad part. This week a friend called to see if I would take her job as a teacher while she is on materity leave. I don't even want a job. My time is already full do to the fact that I am a mother of five still. But, I couldn't say no to such a fun job that works great with my children's schedule. And then, my 14 year old son got a phone call to babysit for the whole day yesterday. He made quite a bit of money too. So, my poor 16 year old waits for his day. I guess reffing soccer will have to do for a bit longer. He did have an interview today so keep your fingers crossed.:)

Pioneers

A few fun games before starting our trek.

Last week we went to youth conference and participated in a pioneer trek. The trek distance was 7 miles and along the way we stopped to meet people playing the part of historical figures. They stayed in character as they told us their stories. I have to say, I was very emotional the entire trek and was happy to have sunglasses and a bonnet to hide my tears. I appreciate their sacrifices. Along the way we pushed or pulled a handcart just like the pioneers did, only our weren't filled as heavy.

A little lake time!

Last evening the family drove up to Payson Lake. It is close to us and sadly we have not ever been there before. It is beautiful with a paved trail all the way around it. The distance around is 1 mile...ish. We had a picnic and just enjoyed the cooler mountain air. It is definitely some place we will be going again. In fact we will be going this Friday with canoes!!!

Sorry I haven't posted much this Summer. Once school is in I'll have a lot more time. I miss blogging.

Beautiful Baby!

I'm spending the week in St. George. I know, I'm crazy to come here in July. At the present moment it is just about 10:30pm and is 100 degrees. It never cools off in the Summer. I've come while the husband and two older boys are scout camping it in Yellow Stone. Sounds like they have had a great time. I've had fun visiting family and resting up a little. Here is a picture of my beautiful niece. I'll definitely miss hanging out with her.

Nebo Loop

For the 4th of July we decided to drive the Nebo Loop. Not only is it awesome to be in the mountains and smell the freshest air on earth, but to see the world from the top of a 9,000 plus foot mountain is amazing. We weren't even at the top. That will take a hike. The top picture is Mtn. Nebo and the destination of a future hike. 11,000 ft. Hopefully this Fall.

Never too late for a little treat.

Well because my life has been a whirlwind since the beginning of May, I'll just have to blog about things when I can. I find I have an hour or two to kill before the fireworks begin. Happy July 4th everyone.

Before you go thinkin I'm a crafty one, stop. That would be my sister, and her most awesome daughter who gave me this simple idea. Next time I make these cute cupcakes I will take pics of each simple step. But for now you just get to see the yummy results. These were created for Father's Day. If you didn't guess the bottom one is a rifle. My husband thought it was a lizard. I don't know why, I see it perfectly.:)

Limber Pine Trail

Last week we enjoyed three days at a family reunion at the top of Utah. And, at the summit of Logan canyon we did a nice easy hike. It is a one mile round trip loop. The scenery was beautiful throughout the entire hike. I'm pretty sure that is the cleanest air you can get. I love that pine scent.

Summer Day Fun

I've been a little too busy to blog lately. On this lovely day it started with, "Mom can we just get our hands muddy?" Being the seasoned Mom that I am, I knew what we were in for. And as you can see Our Summer Day fun turned into a heapin pile of mud. Hope the tomatoes survive. Actually I think the experience was worth it. Everyone should have a day or two like this one.

Track Meet

Last Spring one of my sons wanted to sign up for the city track team so I said sure. At the track meets they can choose what ever 4 events they want. Well, at one he choose the high jump and discovered that he was a natural. He kept clearing the bar higher and higher and found himself competing with the teenagers. He was 10 at the time. He even drew a crowd. It's been fun to watch him this Spring also, and even one of his brothers is trying it. It's a good thing to always try something new. You just never know, you might find your thing.
